I believe the best thing about fashion is that there are no rules. Everyone has their own sense of style, and their own ideas on what is right or wrong. Sure, some people make statements like, "Don't wear white after labor day." and "Don't mix brown with black." but those ideas are dated. We now live in an age where anything goes. Take a look at Jennifer Lawrence at the recent Passengers premiere. The actress styled an everyday sweater with a see through, star embroidered tulle skirt. (Photo by Just Jared)
This look divided fans. Some loved it, and others hated it. I peronally am firmly on #TeamJLaw. Yet, what I love most about the look isn't that Jen looks gorgeous, but rather the fact that she was daring enough to go out of the box and try something new.
Fashion changes everyday. What was in last season may no longer be the "hot item" a few short months later. If you're like me, and living on a budget, you don't have the funds to be constantly adding to your wardrobe. This is why I love to rework the clothes I already own. The jacket and skirt pictured in my photos were bought over a year ago. However this photo shoot was the first time I paired the items together, for a brand new look!
One of my favorite ways to mix up my wardrobe is by putting together items that have a more hard, tough, structured look, such as the moto jacket, with something that is soft and feminine, like the lace midi skirt. This look can be achieved in many ways. You could put leather pants over a suede body suit, a satin nightshirt dress with a bomber jacket, or you can take a page straight from JLaw herself and put on a comfy sweater with a flirty tulle skirt.
Whatever you decide to throw together, have fun with it, and wear your outfit with confidence. You may get some negative reviews, but if you love how you look, then who really cares what others think? :)
